21010030 RESTORATION AND EARTHQUAKES in Master of Science - Restoration LM-4 ZAMPILLI MICHELE
(syllabus)
Teaching goals The course aims at initiating the students to the topics related to the restauration of historical city centres and monuments damaged by the earthquakes. Meaning the restauration activity in a wider sense: from securing the damaged buildings to the philological reconstruction of the collapsed ones, up to the improvement of the habitability and safety conditions of the historical urban fabrics located in the most seismic areas of the country. Program The course will be organized with lessons, lectures and site visits. Starting from an historical excursus of the main seismic events that have affected the Italian peninsula in the last three centuries, the aim is to analyse the different attitudes and approaches of the institutions and of the scientific community towards the disasters provoked by the earthquakes. Specific lectures will be given by external experts of the earthquake-proofing restauration and of the urban structure securing. The site visits will concern the areas affected by the recent seismic events and areas where there are ongoing restauration interventions. The students will have to draft a short report regarding a theme proposed by the teacher or chosen by the student concerning a case study to be analysed at the urban scale and at the architectural one. The same argument could then be developed as thesis work for the master’s degree.
