(syllabus)
The aim of the course is to make the student think about the design of a building in its urban and architectural dimension; about the coherence between form, functional program, typology and structure. The course is developed in theoretical lessons and exercises. The final exercise concerns the design of a residential building with attached services, within an empty area of a dense urban fabric. The building will thus have to be conceived as a part of the city, as an element capable of completing the urban landscape and relating to public space. At the same time it will have to answer, in its articulation and internal organization, the necessities of private life, the theme of the housing.

PALMIERI VALERIO
(syllabus)
The laboratory proposes to submit to the student, at the end of his project training course in the three-year degree in Scienze dell' Architettura, the problem of designing a medium-sized building organism, inserted in a real context. This in order to make evident the connections that every architectural project establishes with the physical and environmental context that surrounds it. In this context, an area of the urban fabric close to infrastructural road systems and to heterogeneous building fabrics for density and physical consistency, spatial, topological, landscape and historical features will be analyzed and understood. With them, the project will have to confront, according to the methods and choices made by the designers. Theme and place: This year the design concerns a group of buildings, mainly for residential use, which host different functions for different users: temporary residences and not with related support services, commercial spaces and ateliers The buildings to be designed should densify the urban fabric of the Olympic Village, built for the seventeenth Olympic Games hosted in Rome in 1960. The theme of the integrated residence will be confronted with the problems of contemporary housing, in a logic of integration and comparison with the questions posed by the urban space in the site.

PRATI CARLO
(syllabus)
To consider architecture as an urban phenomenon allows us to see the project as a dual action, both analytical and practical, able to achieve a space configuration capable of positively orientate the future development of the city. The Workshop studies the central area of Rome, concentrated the Delle Vittorie district, as an analysis of the building's scale, the renewal of the ex depot of public transportation company of Rome (ATAC) actually dismiss The course has the purpose: first to verify, through the project's tools, the actuality of researches on the formation of the city seen as a summation of heterogeneous parts (carried out starting from the 60’s by Aldo Rossi, Carlo Aymonino and Colin Rowe) and to verify their applicability in a project of regeneration on the urban scale1. Second to deepen the theme of architectural drawing interpreted not as a mere activity of "dressing" of the workshop but rather as an opportunity to develop awareness of the role that plays in the design process. The Workshop has as subject of study the ex-Atac depot “vittoria”requalification. The deposit owes its name to the district that hosts it developing between the Vatican City and the Foro Italico, bounded by the natural emergencies of Montemario to the west and the Tiber to the east. Today this part of the city maintains its original structure, defined by Sanjust's 1909 master plan The object of the exercise is the recovery and transformation of the former ATAC deposit through a mixed functional program in which residential and accommodation function coexist (public services) and in which the relationship between empty space (green areas and public spaces) ) and built both equally The invariants for the development of the project must be tracked within these components, with the help of the transformability forecasts established by the PRG and the limitations imposed by the current laws.

Module:
(objectives)
In the general framework of the evaluation topics, the module aims to provide the specific theoretical and methodological tools for the real estate appraisal and the evaluation of environmental, landscape, historical and cultural resources. The module requires to develop a paper (completing the project), that deals with project evaluation. The assessment of the students will take place during the necessary reviews and through the judgement received by the student in the delivery fixed during the semester. Finally, the module will provide a judgement which will compose the exit mark of the whole course.

In the general framework of the evaluation topics, the module aims to provide the specific theoretical and methodological tools for the real estate appraisal and the evaluation of environmental, landscape, historical and cultural resources. The main concepts of microeconomics, the basics of estimation theory and the methodological procedures for value judgments are considered basic knowledge for the understanding of the estimating values and the economic variables generated by an architectural and urban project. Criteria, procedures and appraisal's techniques are suited to different stages of the project, solving in each scale specific problems. The module also provides methods and criteria for the appraisal of the use value and the non-use value. Basics of technique and methodology for the assessment of projects, program and plans are provided, in response to specific feasibility profiles, considering the evaluation as an active, logical and methodological tool to support planning and design. Specifically, the module deals with: - Basics of Microeconomic: elements of theory of value, economic goods, markets structures, market pricing, general equilibrium theory, consumer choice, production theory. - Appraisal fundaments: appraisal theory, principles and methods, basics of statistics, basics of mathematical finance, market value, cost value, secondary values, elements of total economic value. Basics of plans, programs and projects evaluation: financial and economic approaches.
