ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO 2
(objectives)
To provide the tools for the preparation of a medium-sized project and of medium complexity and with particular regard to the size and configuration of the space, from the volumetric definement of the entire complex, to the relations with the context and the definition of the structural relationship in the typological and spatial choices.

LONGOBARDI GIOVANNI
(syllabus)
Students (individual or in groups of two) will be involved in the project of a small public building - a museum - in the former slaughterhouse in Testaccio. The museum architecture, beyond its specialized aspects, appears particularly well qualified to experience the first approach to a complex building, for its aesthetic and functional constraints, for the presence of different uses, and for his close relationship with public space. From this point of view, locating in the former slaughterhouse is focusing on familiarity that students have with the place, in order to implement the project with the experience already acquired in terms of measures and use of space, as well as relationships with the urban context. We will alternate lectures, focus upon individual design aspects, laboratory work, exercises on specific issues, with the aim to advance the student's architectural skills and the representation / presentation of their ideas. There will be periodic connections and shared experiences with the two parallel courses (proff. Panizza and Beccu).

PANIZZA MARIO
(syllabus)
Design of a university museum that must be connected with other functions for study and leisure. This building will be a meeting place for students, professors and citizens, in accordance with the decisions determined during the lessons and the design revisions. The students have to precise all the functional areas of the building and to define its principal structural details. Above all, they have to combine the library with the nearest layout of the urban structure. The 2nd Studio deals with an intermediate scale project design. Students face some primary challenges about measures, dimensions and layout of inner spaces, volumes and forms of buildings; the relation to the built context; structural, typological and spatial choices

BECCU MICHELE
(syllabus)
The purpose of the Design Lab 2 is to draw up a medium-sized and medium-complex project, providing for the following features: a. space planning b. focus on the relationships to the context c. definition of the structural aspects according to typologies and spaces. The complexity of buildings and plans will match the student's real planning aptitudes. The chosen areas and the yearly theme aim to become part of the transformation and renovation dynamics connected to the Roma Tre University’s locations. The project aims to design small facilities and services improving the activities of the Department of Architecture, while being an autonomous part but connected to the existing pavilions and potentially oriented towards the neighbourhood. The intervention will concern the area of the former Pavilion 14, which might be partially or totally demolished and rebuilt. A conversion should nevertheless be clearly recognisable as such.
