CONSERVATION BIOLOGY
(objectives)
THE MAIN FORMATIVE TARGETS ARE: 1) TO ACQUIRE AN ECOLOGICAL AND BIOGEGRAPHIC APPROACH TO THE CONSERVATION BIOLOGY OF PLANT AND ANIMAL POPULATIONS AND SPECIES, AND OF ECOSYSTEMS.(2) TO ACQUIRE BASIC KNOWLEDGE ON THE POPULATION ECOLOGY AND GENETICS APPLIED TO THE CONSERVATION OF BIODIVERSITY, AND ANALYSE PROBLEMS CONCERNING HUMAN AND NATURE INTERACTIONS. (3) TO ACQUIRE A FIELD AND LAB EXPERIMENTAL EXPERIENCE ON CONSERVATION BIOLOGY; 4) TO LEAD THE STUDENTS TOWARDS A SELF-EVALUATION OF THEIR OWN COMPETENCE WHITIN CONSERVATION BIOLOGY.

BOLOGNA MARCO ALBERTO
(syllabus)
THE COURSE CONSISTS OF A MODULE OF LESSONS AND SOME FIELD AND LAB PRACTICES CONCERNING POPULATION AND COMMUNITYECOLOGY AND GENETICS. LESSONS ARE DEVOTED TO STUDY THE FOLLOWING SUBJECTS OF GENERAL, PLANT AND ANIMAL CONSERVATION BIOLOGY: (A) ORGANISATION OF THE COURSE. PRINCIPLES AND PROBLEMS OF CONSERVATION BIOLOGY AT INTERNATIONAL AND NATIONAL LEVELS. DESTRUCTION, TRANSFORMATIONA NAD CONSERVATION OF TERRESTRIAL, FRESHWATER AND MARINE HABITATS. (B) LEVELS OF BIODIVERSITY, FROM MOLECULES TO ECOSYSTEMS, AND THEIR CONSERVATION. (C) BIOGEOGRAPHIC, ECOLOGICAL AND HUMAN CAUSES OF POPULATION AND ECOSYSTEM FRAGMENTATION. EFFETCTS OF FRAGMENTATION: REDUCTION OF INDIVIDUALS, POPULATIONS AND GENE FLOW; EXTINCTION. (D)ECOLOGY OF POPULATIONS AND COMMUNITIES APPLIED TO THE CONSERVATION OF PLANT AND ANIMAL SPECIES: MONITORING, MAINTENANCE, RESTORATION (RESTOCKING, REPLANTING, REINTRODUCTION); IN SITU AND EX SITU PROJECTS). (E) CONSERVATION GENETICS OF PLANT AND ANIMAL SPECIES: MOLECULAR SYSTEMATICS APPLIED TO CONSERVATION; ESTIMATE OF GENETIC DIVERSITY AND INBRREEDING LEVEL IN ENDANGERED POPULATIONS. (F) AUTOCTHONOUS AND ALLOCTONOUS POPULATIONS AND SPECIES; BIOGEOGRAPHIC, ECOLOGICAL AND GENETIC POLLUTION, ERADICATION AND PATROL. (G) ECOLOGICAL NETWORKS, PROTECTED AND NOT PROTECTED AREAS. (H) CONSERVATION CATEGORIES, EUROPEAN AND ITALIAN RULES ON PROTECTED AREAS, RED LISTS. ETHICS OF CONSERVATION AND EDUCATION.
