The course aims to provide skills to critically analyze the Chinese and Far Eastern history through the comparison between the imperial and the republican era. It also aims to provide a knowledge of the cultural traditions, both Chinese and external, which influenced the codification and legitimization of Chinese imperial political culture before the transition to a national culture and until the development of a modern Chinese state.
