The course is divided in three parts:
Part 1) Discrete systems, finite elements for beams. Equilibrium and the stiffness matrix Minimum Principles Structures in equilibrium & Trussess Finite Elements for bars (axial loading) Finite Elements for beams (transversal loading)
Part 2) 3D linear elasticity The fundamental equations of mechanics: congruence, balance, constitutive The principle of virtual powers Analysis of deformation and stress Constitutive relations for elastic materials; visco-elastic materials.
Part 3) Numerical simulations with COMSOL
