BURRASCANO MARCO
(syllabus)
The course is aimed at students in the first year of the master's degree in restoration. We will work on the role of the contemporary architecture in the reconstruction of identities in the earthquake zones. The course aims to stimulate a reflection on the relationship between contemporary architecture and historical heritage, through a series of lectures by professors of the Department of Architecture, the study of examples of contemporary buildings and a series of reviews on the analysis and project. The educational aim concern the design of a poli-functional building in an historical context, respecting the typological, spatial and material traits. The course proposes to define, through the architectural project, a clear settlement principle in relation to the surrounding urban fabric and to the landscape in which it is located, not only with respect to the functional program. Particular attention is paid to the architectural definition of the spaces in relation to the ways of living and to the building systems: masonry, concrete, steel and wood. The project area is located in Borbona, in the province of Rieti. Within the spaces of the former Convento di Sant'Anna, it is necessary to think of: a polifunctional space that can also be used as a temporary school on “natural agriculture”; a little market of typical food; a restaurant and a small guesthouse. It also requires a reflection on the public space in front of the convent.
