1. Romanticism in Italy and in Europe. Characteristics of European Romanticism. Origins of the Romanticism in Italy. Romantic author's literary theory will be pointed out. Reading and interpreting shortlisted texts. 2. Reading and interpreting shortlisted passages by Gadda's Meditazione Milanese (some lessons). Some lessons will be focusing problems of methodology in literary studies.

Battistini (capp. VI-VII-VIII-IX-X-XI) Reading a literary masterpiece of the period, selected during the course, and a monography related to the same book. Reading and interpreting two classical pieces of the Italian literature, to be chosen throughout the course (including appropriate introduction and explanatory notes). Non-attending students will be requested to contact the professor for further bibliographical guidelines.
