The concept of ‘Atmosphere’ is one of the most controversial and crucial in the contemporary debate in philosophy and, particularly, aesthetics. It allows to provide some reasons for the attraction or repulsion before environments, objects, and behaviour. Recently, scholars in Pedagogy (Rossini 2018, Wolf 2018) tried and made use of the concept in order to evaluate its pedagogical potentialities, since it seems that the introduction of the idea of ‘Atmosphere’ is able to complete the deep psychological and sociological analyses, which are necessary, even though often insufficient, in order to really make effective the pedagogic practice. My class will consist in two different although interwove parts: 1. A general presentation of Aesthetics (I will try and ask the following questions: what Aesthetics is, what it is for and what it deals with, what its history is); 2. A deeply developed analysis of the concept of ‘Atmosphere’. The student will also have to possibility of reflecting on either his/her own studies or career.
