Poetry and Drama in Contemporary Anglophone America: USA, Caribbean, Canada (2nd part)
As categories of literary compositions, literary genres are naturally flexible and open to blending and hybridization. Poetry and drama, in particular, share specific characteristics and often impregnate each other with lyricism and performative qualities. We need only to address the work of modernist poets, the beat and post-modernist generation, great dramatists and post-modern authors of different ethnicities and gender to discover how often those genres mingle to create new subversive blurring. We will aim at reaching an adequate understanding of the significance of genre in contemporary literature.

Poesia e teatro nell’America anglofona contemporanea: Stati Uniti, Caraibi, Canada (6 cfu)
Generi che si avvicinano per impregnare il teatro di carica lirica e la poesia di carica drammatica sono naturalmente flessibili ed aperti a e ibridizzazione. Poesia e dramma condividono caratteristiche specifiche e si impregnano vicendevolmente di carica lirica e performativa.
E’ sufficiente prendere in considerazione le opere dei maggiori poeti, modernisti, beat e post-modernisti, dei drammaturghi della post-modernità, di diverse etnie e gender per scoprire le modalità in cui I generi si mescolano per creare sconfinamenti sovversivi.
Lo studio condurrà a raggiungere la comprensione adeguata del significato di genere (genre and gender) nella letteratura contemporanea.
Tra gli autori che studieremo: Walt Whitman, Bob Dylan, Kenneth Patchen, Oh! Calcutta, Edward Albee, Derek Walcott.
