(syllabus)
The course aims to extend the translation student’s knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of translation, including issues of intercultural and intermedial translation, terminology, specialized translation. Specialized, academic and literary texts will provide the basis for translation practice. Translation theory: language and cultural aspects in varied text types; analysis of translation strategies and problem-solving procedures. Terminology and translation; terminological records. Key issues in literary translation. Text analysis applied to specialized and literary texts. Translation practice (English to Italian): text analysis and translation techniques; training in the application of translation strategies and problem-solving procedures; training in terminology; training in sight translation (intermediate level). Online resources; corpus analysis and related software (lab classes). Classroom activities include: frontal teaching; power point presentation; dictation; sight translation; written translation practice.
