(syllabus)
THE COURSE CONSISTS OF LESSONS (5CFU) AND LAB PRACTICES (1CFU). LESSONS DEAL WITH THE PROCESSES OF BIOCHEMICAL, PHYSIOLOGICAL AND FENOTIPIC ACCLIMATATION OCCURRING IN PLANTS IN RESPONSE TO ENVIRONMENTAL STIMULUS AND CLIMATE VARIATIONS. LESSONS ARE ORGANIZED AS FOLLOWS: 1) SIGNAL PERCEPTION AND TRANSDUCTION PATHWAYS IN PLANT CELLS: RECEPTORS, MEDIATORS AND MODALITY OF TRANSDUCTION. SIGNALING PATHWAYS UPON HORMONE OR LIGHT PERCEPTION. 2) CELL WALL AT THE INTERFACE BETWEEN INTRACELLULAR AND EXTRACELLULAR ENVIRONMENT: CELL SURFACE SENSORS AND RECEPTORS. 3) SHORT AND LONG DISTANCE SIGNALING. 4) ROLE OF REACTIVE OXYGEN SPECIES IN SIGNAL TRANSDUCTION. 5) PHENOTYPIC PLASTICITY IN RESPONSES TO ABIOTIC STRESSES (DROUGHT, FLOODING, SALT STRESS, HIGH AND LOW TEMPERATURE, HIGH LIGHT). 6) SECONDARY METABOLISM AND DEFENCE STRATEGY AGAINST WOUNDING OR PATHOGEN ATTACK. INNATE IMMUNITY AND EFFECTOR TRIGGERED IMMUNITY. 7) LOCAL AND SYSTEMIC DEFENCE RESPONSES. 8) PLANT COMPOUNDS AS SOURCE OF DRUGS, NUTRACEUTICAL FOOD OR NATURAL HERBICIDES. BASIC KNOWLEDGE IN PHYTOREMEDIATION.
