Activity: Religious freedom in the european context (CoE-EU)
(objectives)
Objectives: Since the Second World War, religious freedom has conquered space in the sources of the law, case-law and policies of the Council of Europe and European Union. These sources affect the national rights by creating common trends. In this framework, the course will provide the historical and legal bases for understanding the conflicts characterized by religious and ethnic / religious impact that shake Europe, with particular reference to: the legal status of Religious Organizations; the interaction of the European institutions with Religious Organizations; the balancing with other principles and freedoms that are the basis of European systems (secularism, freedom of thought, equality, freedom of economic activity, physical integrity, etc.)

(syllabus)
Program: Origins and development of religious freedom in the European context. Religious freedom in law and in political action of the Council of Europe. The competence of the European Community, and of today's Union. The incidence of secularization and multiculturalism in the national and international context. Analysis and discussion of religious conflicts through modern judicial cases, with special reference to the relationship between religious pluralism and democratic society; secularism and religious symbolism; freedom of expression and criticism v. protection of religious sentiment; educational freedom of parents/students v. educational authority of the State; individual religious liberty v. rights of enterprise and organization.
The course/inscription: Prerequisites: the examination is open to all interested students who have incurred under Public law. The course includes frontal lessons in November / December. Attendance is mandatory.
