Title of the course: From the Thirteenth century poetry to Dante's Comedy

Description of the course: The course will deal with the origin of Italian literature, with special regard to the passage from the early thirteenth century poetry to Dante's Comedy. It will be articulated in lesson about the historical background and readings of the texts. Also the methodological and metrical propedeutics will be object of the course.

- Two classics of Italian literature (with the relative critical essays), which be indicated during the course.

N.B. Students who choose not to attend the course are invited to contact the lecturer in order to arrange specific integration to the exam schedule.

Title of the course: Poetry and Rhetoric in the Middle Ages: metaphors in Dante and Petrarch

Description of the course: In Dante and petrarch the strong dynamic coherence between rhetoric an poetic writing works according to experimental and innovative elemens, which different from those of the classical and medieval rhetorical tradition. Nonetheless, it remains their cultural and technical background. Through the analysis of lyrical texts of dante and Petrarch and of the Comedy (in particular the Paradise), the course aims to show the status of metaphor in these two authors, whose work will mark a reference point for the poetic tradition in Italy and abroad.
