Title of the course: The Confessioni di un Italiano: a literary and ethic model. "Testified history" as a choise of responsability

Description of the course: The course aims to study in depth the relationship between history and novel within Italian literature. The Nineteenth centuty is a time of transition and a decisive moment for the formation of Italian national identity; on the literary side, it brings to the creation of new models and offers an interesting starting point for reflecting on these models. In particular the course will take into exam Nievo's novel "Le confessioni di un italiano" and will try to show the peculiar feature of this kind of novel (which is also practiced in the Twentieth century) that recurs to history in order to a critical rewriting of it.
