Title of the course: Poetry and Rhetoric in the Middle Ages: metaphors in Dante and Petrarch
Description of the course: In Dante and petrarch the strong dynamic coherence between rhetoric an poetic writing works according to experimental and innovative elemens, which different from those of the classical and medieval rhetorical tradition. Nonetheless, it remains their cultural and technical background. Through the analysis of lyrical texts of dante and Petrarch and of the Comedy (in particular the Paradise), the course aims to show the status of metaphor in these two authors, whose work will mark a reference point for the poetic tradition in Italy and abroad.
