(syllabus)
The aim of the class is to give an overview of the more relevant issues of film and media aesthetics. In particular, the class will be focused on both historically relevant perspective and more recent topics and methodologies. A particular attention will be devoted to theories of sensory and emotional cinematic and medial experience. The program will be articulated around three main stages. In the first one, the main approaches to film aesthetics will be taken into account, with particular reference to the first half of the 20th century. In the second one, the classic film aesthetics will be compared with film and media aesthetics approaches of the second half of the 20th century, and in the third one with contemporary theories of the “Postmedia” condition.
