(syllabus)
International organizations are an essential component of modern international relations. The course offers an introduction to the principles and norms of international law applicable to inter-governmental organizations. Although the course will take a comprehensive approach to the phenomenon, its focus will be on the United Nations, as the paradigm of modern IGO. The course will cover the following areas: 1. Inter-governmental organisations 2. Membership, voting 3. Legal character of the constituent treaty 4. International legal personality 5. The doctrine of powers 6. Institutional lawmaking: a new source of international law? 7. Sanctions 8. Military measures 9. Responsibility of international organisations 10. Accountability, access to justice and remedies
