THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE INSIGHTS FOR UNDERSTANDING THE HISTORY OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY CITY,THROUGH SOME 'SECTIONS' IDENTIFIED IN THE PERIOD BETWEEN THE MID-18TH CENTURY AND MID-20TH CENTURY. THE FOCUS OF THE COURSE WILL BE GIVEN TO EXPLORE BOTH THE URBAN STRUCTURE OF SPECIAL CITIES (WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO SOME EUROPEAN CAPITALS), WICH GENERAL ISSUES. THE VARIOUS 'SECTIONS', ORGANIZED IN WEEKLY CYCLES, WILL COVER THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: CULTURE AND URBAN TRANSFORMATION IN EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY EUROPE; EUROPEAN CAPITAL CITIES BETWEEN "ANCIEN RÉGIME" AND REVOLUTION: PARIS, LONDON, BERLIN AND VIENNA; EUROPEAN CITIES OF THE 19TH CENTURY BETWEEN NEOCLASSICISM, ECLECTICISM AND INDUSTRIALIZATION; REGENT STREET AND RUE DE RIVOLI, REFERENCE MODELS FOR THE DESIGN OF THE 19TH CENTURY CITY; THE BIG 'PLANS' OF CITIES-CAPITALS (HAUSSMANN'S PARIS, VIENNA AND THE RING, BARCELONA AND THE CERDA PLAN ', BERLIN AND AMSTERDAM, VIVIANI'S ROME); THE 'INDUSTRIAL CITY'. The course is intended to provide further to the knowledge of history of contemporary city, through some 'sections' identified in the period from half 'of the XVIII century and one half' of the twentieth century. Attention of the course will 'revolt is exploring the urban structure of special city' (with special reference to some european capitals), that a general issues. Various 'sections', organized in weekly cycles, to include the following: culture and urban transformation of the city 'of eastern lumi; the city 'between european capitals ancien regime and revolution: Paris, London, Berlin and Vienna.
