(syllabus)
The course aims to provide a good knowledge of the main aspects of the European Union integration. The course is divided into two parts: a general part and a special section dedicated to the EU migration and asylum law. The general part takes into account the EU basic structure and principles, with particular reference to the legal system after the Lisbon Treaty. As to the substantive law, it dedicates peculiar attention to the EU division of competences, the foreign and security policy, the police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters and the EU external relations. As to the institutional framework, the functioning of all the Institution is examined, including their relations. In addition, a sound part of the course is dedicated to the EU legal system, including the legislative procedures and the hierarchy of EU legal sources. Finally, in the general part the EU judicial system is extensively investigated, with special regard to the judicial procedures before the ECJ. The special part treats of EU migration law. Both parts will be integrated with a comprehensive analysis of the ECJ leading cases.
