(syllabus)
Course Programme Based on the introductory module of the first year, the second year module is intended to explore further aspects concerning the theory and practice of translation. Translation theory: Specialized texts, special languages and the transfer of knowledge. Text structure and language features (intermediate level); text function and translation strategies. Contrastive analysis (English/Italian). Domain languages and introduction to terminology; terminological records. Translation practice (English to Italian): analytical study of specialized texts (pre-intermediate/intermediate level); features of special languages; training in the application of translation strategies and techniques (pre-intermediate/intermediate level); practical aspects of terminology; training in sight translation and consecutive translation (pre-intermediate level). Writing conventions and formal presentation of texts (lab classes): track changes; software for corpus analysis; wordnet. Translation passages are selected from authentic texts (newspaper articles, specialized texts, academic texts).
