(syllabus)
The course aims to outline an overview of Portuguese varieties in a synchronic perspective. The main contents of the course are as follows: - Concept of standard language; - Analysis of dimensions of linguistic variation; - Outline of the diacronic development of Portuguese; - Main aspects of the European standard; - Outline of the historic and cultural development of Brazilian Portuguese; - Main aspects of the Brazilian standard; - Outline of Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP): Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe; - Portuguese in Asia: East Timor - Outline of the main characteristics of Portuguese-based creole languages; - Portuguese Language Orthographic Agreement of 1990; - Analysis and translation into Italian of texts relating to the tourist field; - Analysis and translation into Italian of texts relating to the cultural traditions of Portuguese-speaking countries.
