(syllabus)
The course will offer an historical and literary overview of the Long Eighteenth Century in which the most important cultural trends of the Restoration, the Enlightenment and Romanticism will be highlighted through the analysis of a number of meanignful texts by different authors and genres (prose, poetry, drama). Topics like the re-use of classical texts, literary sociability, the interart relations, the birth of the novel, the periods of Romantic poetry will be discussed through the reading of classics.
The course is delivered in Italian; texts will have to be read in the original (English) with the help of Italian translations. There will be lectures and workshops with an intermedial and comparative approach to texts in order to develop reading and rewriting techniques.
