(syllabus)
The module will provide students with a broad introduction to the main historical and literary features of the English Renaissance through the reading of a selection of texts by several Elizabethan and Jacobean authors, focusing in particular on topics like the English Reformations, Humanism and the Classical texts, interarts relationships, voyages of exploration, magic and new science, representations of power, the relation between genders. The course will also explore the Renaissance system of genres with specific attention to poetry and theatre.
