COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course focuses on the basic topics and issues in the field of International law and aims at providing an overall view taking into account the main trends emerging in the inter-State relations, the existing instruments for the protection of human rights and the contribution of international organizations to the economic development and peace.

SEMINARS
From the beginning of November seminars will be organized for the students of the course on the following topics:
- the international protection of foreign investments and the instruments for the settlement of investor-State disputes
- the international protection of indigenous peoples
- the case law of the European Court of Human Rights in the field of State immunity

FINAL ASSESSMENT
The final assessment will take place in oral form according to a calendar that will be established well in advance. Reference will be made to the suggested texts and, for attending students, to the discussion of cases examined through the seminars.

CLASS SCHEDULE
Lectures will start on October 5th (6 hours per week Monday/ Thuesday/Wednesday) + Seminars.

ATTENDANCE
Class attendance is not compulsory. However, active participation in the discussion of cases submitted to students and the positive outcome of texts distributed during the course will be taken into account for the final evaluation. At the end of the course, a certification can be obtained by attending students

Students are presumed to combine their study of texts with the reading at least of the UN Charter and the Vienna Convention on the law of Treaties of 1969 (both can be found in the website of United Nations: http://www.un.org).
