(syllabus)
The course aims to introduce students to the theories of media communication and their sociological analysis, promoting a critical comprehension of the relationship between the the mass media and the traits of contemporary society. The first part is focused on the history of the media, the main sociological theories, and on the relationship among audiences, media and effects. The second part is focused to the analysis of the impact of the social media on the forms of socialization cooperation and participation. A particular attention will be dedicated to the impact of television on Italian culture and society.
