(syllabus)
The program will be articulated around three main stages. In the first one, the main approaches to film aesthetics will be taken into account, with particular reference to the first half of the 20th century. In the second one, the classic film aesthetics will be compared with more recent approaches, as well as with media aesthetics approaches of the second half of the 20th century, and contemporary theories of the “Postmedia” condition. In the third one, film and media aesthetics will be compared with contemporary visual culture studies and then framed in a wider history of images.
