(syllabus)
The course is a reading, discussion, and writing seminar on the theme of "contemporary landscapes" as a defining issue of photographic language in the postwar period. Class lectures on specific images will introduce the theme, together with a presentation of the main issues of the critical and theoretical debate. The seminar will develop a program of weekly readings, with individual presentations followed by class discusssions. For the final exam, students are required to write an original paper on one of the themes discussed in class. The theme, sources, and deadlines of the final paper must be discussed with the instructor during the seminar. Attendance is strictly required.
