MEREU LUNELLA
(syllabus)
The programme is divided into a theoretical and applied section, the latter provided with Language Technologies for linguistic analisys data. The theoretical section will introduce the following themes: word classes and lexical information, basic concepts in semantics and theories on meaning, structure in predicate and arguments (nouns and verbs), verb temporal and aspectual information, combinations of, and interactions between, words. The applied section, with the help of the tools of information technology, will illustrate the research methodologies in use for linguistic data, in particular for the extraction of words, of combinations of words, and for their different typologies; it will also be devoted to a survey of frequency data which can be drawn from the existing corpora presented in the computer lab. The applied section will be delivered by Dr. Piunno, expert in Language Technologies and corpus linguistics.
Students who attend classes may choose to write a small paper on some of the main topics of the course to be evaluated.
