THE COURSE WILL ILLUSTRATE THE EVOLUTION OF THE MAIN GENRES AND FORMS OF ORCHESTRAL MUSIC FROM THE CLASSICAL TRADITION, WITH ATTENTION TO FORMAL AND AESTHETIC PRINCIPLES THAT ARE THE BASIS OF THE CATEGORIES OF ABSOLUTE MUSIC AND PROGRAM MUSIC. IN PARTICULAR, THE SYMPHONIE FANTASTIQUE BY H. BERLIOZ WILL BE ANALYZED, WITH SPECIFIC REFERENCE TO THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOUND STRUCTURES AND SCENIC-VISUAL ISSUES.
