21002135 BIM - PARAMETRIC AND RULE BASED DESIGN in Master of Science - Architecture LM-4 N0 CONVERSO STEFANO
(syllabus)
The class program is articulated around a progression of small projects. They are proposed to students in a progression from basic to simple to complex. Every project is based on the introduction of a small "digital engine" that has to be declined and explored in its design potential. These engines then, become, design engines. They promote a bottom-up design process, but more precisely they introduced the idea of a tectonic system to be designed by the design of its own components including the introduction of variation as a new possibility gained from Computer Controlled Manufacturing. In between project assignments, the class introduces BIM and parametric digital procedures, using Revit as main platform, and presents offices and projects related with the proposed design topics, both contemporary and historic, and ranging from international experimentation to Italian tradition, such as SHoP Architects, Studio Mumbai, REX, as well as Carlo Scarpa, Franco Albini, and so on.
