(syllabus)
THE COURSE OFHISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE 1 – DEDICATED TO THE HISTORICAL RANGE FROM CLASSICAL ERA TO LATE RENAISSANCE – HAS BEEN CONCEIVED FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE USED – FROM THEIR PREVIOUS STUDIES – TO CONSIDER HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE PART OF A MORE COMPLETE HISTORY OF ART. BUT FOR AN ARCHITECT HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE SHOULD BE INSTEAD A USEFUL WAY TO GET THE SKILL NECESSARY TO FACE AND RESOLVE ARCHITECTURAL PROBLEMS. FOR THIS PURPOSE, THE TOPICS EXPOSED DURING THE LECTURES WILL DEAL PARTICULARLY WITH THE ROLE OF HISTORY IN ARCHITECTURAL CREATIVITY, OBVIOUSLY EXCLUDING THE USE OF SIMPLE MOTIFS AS A KIND OF REPERTORY/CATALOGUE AND PRIVILEGING INSTEAD THE METHODOLOGICAL “LESSON OF THE PAST”. THE LECTURES WILL BE MAINLY DEDICATED TO A DETAILED ANALYSIS OF THE MANNER IN WHICH ARCHITECTURAL PROBLEMS WERE FACED DURING THE HISTORICAL RANGE BETWEEN CLASSICAL ERA AND LATE RENAISSANCE, EXTENDING THE FIELD OF RESEARCH TO EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF THE INTERNATIONAL INFLUENCE OF CLASSICAL LANGUAGE, ITALIAN ARCHITECTURAL CULTURE AND THEIR REINTERPRETATION. WITHOUT NEGLECTING THE INFLUENCE OF OTHER EUROPEAN THOUGHTS AND SHAPES, FOR INSTANCE ON ROMANIC AND GOTHIC ITALIAN ARCHITECTURE.
