URBAN AND ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO
(objectives)
To explore issues raised by the Laboratory of Urban Planning with the tools of architectural design at the urban scale, with particular attention to the structural components. The laboratory offers a new architectural and urban design for the study area and the actions of modification of the spaces that could lead to an overall project, acquiring the basis for an economic evaluation of projects.

PALMIERI VALERIO
(syllabus)
The application theme will cover the design of a church building, and more precisely a parish complex in the district of Decima in Rome. This parish complex, according to the parameters regulated by the Vicariate of Rome, will belong to the type A, with functional spaces organized on limited surfaces. A difficult subject for its strong symbolic value, in which are associated the need for a coherent spatial thinking on the sacred space of the liturgical hall (architectural scale) and a thought on the urban significance of the ecclesiastical building. A character that in a city like Rome has found over the centuries declinations of high architectural quality, which will be profitable for thought for the definition of the project. The Parish complex, of contained dimensions, will be able to positively interact with the natural and built environment. To achieve this will require a careful reading of the neighborhood, able to single out the deep characters, physical, topographical, functional, but also metaphorical, of the existing settlement. Clearly visible characters in the INCIS Decima district, the work of a design team that includes among its members two of the most important protagonists of the Italian architectural history of the 20th century: Adalberto Libera and Luigi Moretti. A district that is one of the best examples of postwar public housing built in the capital. To achieve this integration, it should be paid close attention to the areas of relationship between designed buildings and their surroundings, with particular regard to the definition of the attack on the ground, the open spaces, the collective use areas, the green areas close to the parish complex, and facilities dedicated to car parking. These spaces must be conceived and designed in an integrated manner, such as built portions.

FINUCCI FABRIZIO
(syllabus)
The assessment becomes a part of the design process, providing logical and methodological support and becoming an active component in the construction of the design. The evaluation, therefore, becomes a contribution to the implementation of the preferred solution in relation to context, to the actors involved in the process, and to feasibility, taking into account the numerous variables (socio-economic, environmental, financial, aesthetic, cultural, etc.). The module deals with the methods and techniques of project evaluation according to different approaches (financial, economic, multidimensional); finally, the module introduces methodologies that enable the assessment of the effects and impacts perceived by the community. Specifically, the module deals with: A brief summary of appraisal basics: appraisals principles and methods. Basics of international appraisal procedures. Total Economc Value: Theory and tecniques. Methods and techniques of projects evaluation: financial methods (Investment Analysis), cash flows and measures of investment performance, project financing, economic methods (Cost-Benefit Analysis), multidimensional methods, Multicriteria Analysis (among which Electre methods, Dominant Regime Methods, Analytic Hierarchy Process, etc.) Community Impact Evaluation, direct and Deliberative methods to evaluate impact and effect perceived by community.
