Combining theoretical and insights offered by concrete cases elements, the course offers an interpretation of the city and the territory as areas where a confront of multiple stakeholders takes place, where the relationship between perceived problems and design solutions is often ambiguous and where it makes possible the testing of complex forms of intervention based on the mobilization of a large set of resources. Objective of the course is to enrich the perspective of the students about the complexity of the city governance processes with a view to increase the effectiveness of their future project activities and planning. In addition to the lectures (some of which are supported by the contribution of external experts), the active participation of students will be solicited through conducting two class-exercises (with delivery and discussion of the documents) and the production of a project for the final exam. The latter will consist of the design of a "quality incubator,", a space where we can introduce functions that can trigger a process of regeneration, which is being extended to the whole district. The context of study is the Municipality III of Rome and specifically the districts of Città Giardino Aniene Valli and Sacco Pastore.
