Goal of the discipline is to provide students with the conceptual tools and knowledge bases in order to understand the organizational structure and operation of welfare systems. To this end it is proposed a brief on the development of modern social protection in the Western world, describes its main interpretative models, is represented the current configuration of welfare systems and of their role in their joints sottosistemiche. The study of the mechanisms of functioning of the system of social services in Italy and its legal framework constitutes a discussion aimed at check in a concrete context of knowledge acquired.
