(syllabus)
The course aims to analyze the notion of matter in Thomas Aquinas’ thought. Through the analytical reading of some of the key-sections of the Commentary on Aristotle’ s Physics and Metaphysics and from the Summa contra Gentiles and the Summa Theologiae the course recalls the transformation of the Greek definition of matter in the theological and metaphysical framework of Thomas Aquinas, by assessing its contribution in relation to the theoretical thought of Anselm of Canterbury.
