The course is divided in three parts.
Part 1) Discrete systems; trusses; finite elements for beams. References: Strang - Computational Sciences and Engineering Topics: Equilibrium and the stiffness matrix; Minimum Principles; Structures in equilibrium & Trussess; Finite Elements for bars (axial loading); Finite Elements for beams (transversal loading)
Part 2) Linear Elasticity References: classroom notes Topics: The fundamental equations of mechanics: congruence, constitutive, balance; The principle of virtual power; Analysis of deformation; Analysis of stress; Constitutive relations for anisotropic solids; Viscoelasticity.
Part 3) Numerical simulation with Finite Elements Method References: COMSOL models prepared by the teacher Topics: Introduction to the software COMSOL MultiPhysics; selected problems in solid and structural mechanics.
