CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN ARCHITECTURAL RESTORATION IN EUROPE AND BEYOND
(objectives)
THE COURSE EXAMINES THEMES AND EXEMPLARY AND/OR CONTROVERSIAL INTERNATIONAL CASES RELATED TO THE RESTORATION OF MONUMENTS AND THE CONSERVATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE. CRITERIA, TRADITIONS, METHODS AND TECHNIQUES TIED TO SPECIFIC GEOGRAPHIC AREAS WILL BE USED TO ORIENT AND CONSOLIDATE WORKING METHODS IN OTHER LATITUDES, IN MANY CASES ANALOGOUS, IN OTHERS IN OPEN CONTRAST WITH THE PRINCIPLES OF THE DISCIPLINE OF RESTORATION IN ITALY. THE EXAMINATION OF CASE STUDIES IS ACCOMPANIED BY A CONTINUOUS INVESTIGATION OF INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTS AND CHARTERS ON RESTORATION, WHICH EVOLVE IN PARALLEL TO THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF CONCEPTIONS OF THE NATURE AND SPECIFICITY OF “CULTURAL HERITAGE”. THESE LATTER ARE DIFFERENTIATED BY THE CONTEXTS AND GEOGRAPHIC LOCATIONS IN WHICH THEY ARE LOCATED, AND THE HISTORIES AND CULTURES THAT HAVE ACCOMPANIED THEM THROUGHOUT THE CENTURIES. THE STUDY OF DIVERSITY, TOGETHER WITH SINGULAR CULTURAL ELEMENTS – IN THE FIELD OF RESTORATION – IN OTHER NATIONS WILL CONTRIBUTE TO ENRICHING AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE ISSUES AT HAND AND AMPLIFYING THE HORIZONS OF REFERENCE FOR THOSE CALLED UPON TO INTERVENE, OVERCOMING IDEOLOGICAL BARRIERS AND PREJUDICES, AND EMPLOYING A GREATER AWARENESS AND RESPONSIBILITY TOWARDS EXISTING STRUCTURES.
