The course aims at introducing students to the main legal systems consolidated globally, and more specifically to those with which the Italian legal system has major contacts. The approach will be both from a historical perspective and from one taking into consideration the main and current intersections between legal systems, highlighting similarities, convergences and competition between models.
Program for all students
1. Legal systems of the franco-romanistic tradition - 2. The diffusion of the Code Napoléon throughout the world - 3. Legal systems of the german-romanistic tradition (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) - 4. The diffusion of the German civil code throughout the world - 5. The common law legal systems: England - 6.(continued) United States of America - 7. The law of the Scandinavian countries - 8. Islamic law - 9. The law of countries of the Far East (India, China, Japan)- 10. European private law - 11. Unification of the law.
Please note that there are no differences in the program between students who attend classes and those who do not.

FINAL EXAM:
The final exam consists in: a) Fifteen multiple choice questions. Two points are attributed for every correct answer. Zero points for every wrong or blank answer. The questions are based on the recommended textbooks for the course. Part a) of the exam lasts 30 minutes. b) Four essay questions, to be answered with a maximum of 5-10 lines. The evaluation of part b) of the exam can be either an increase of up to four points, or a decrease of up to four points of the result obtained in part a).Part b) of the exam lasts 1 hour. The total duration of the exam is 1h30’.
Please note that since the exam is written, punctuality is of essence.
Erasmus students can ask for a written or oral exam in Italian or in their own language in case they should have difficulties in writing an essay in Italian.
