Romanticism and literary theory: from Europe to Italy. Characteristics of the European Romanticism and Origins of the Romanticism in Italy. The literary theory of romantic authors. Reading of selected passages.

- Reading a literary masterpiece of the period, selected during the course, and a monography related to the same book: Ugo Foscolo, Ultime lettere di Jacopo Ortis, a cura di G. Ioli, Torino, Einaudi, e Giacomo Leopardi, Operette morali, a cura di L. Melosi, Milano, Bur Rizzoli (half of the book). - M. Puppo, Il Romanticismo, Roma, Studium, or E. Raimondi, Romanticismo italiano e romanticismo europeo, Milano, Bruno Mondadori. Further and more detailed indications about the exam texts will be provided during the course. Students who do not attend the classes are invited to contact the teacher for additional bibliographical material.
