To increase knowledge concerning fundamental processes underlying plant life as well as provide students with basic expertise in experimental plant physiology. Plant Physiology has a primary importance in many scientific areas and applicative contexts such as plant molecular biology, plant breeding, pharmacology, plant pathology, agro-industrial biotechnology. Expected learning outcomes: to describe theoretical aspects, in-depth knowledge, clarity of exposition, ability to apply the acquired knowledge to complex problems, language properties.
THE PLANT CELL (INCLUDED CELL WALL STRUCTURE, BIOGENESIS AND EXPANSION) – WATER AND PLANT CELL – WATER BALANCE OF PLANTS – MINERAL NUTRITION - SOLUTE TRANSPORT – PHOTOSYNTHESIS: THE LIGHT REACTIONS - PHOTOSYNTHESIS: CARBON REACTIONS - PHOTOSYNTHESIS: PHYSIOLOGICAL AND ECOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS - TRASLOCATION IN THE PHLOEM – RESPIRATION AND LIPID METABOLISM – ASSIMILATION OF MINERAL NUTRIENTS – SECONDARY METABOLITES AND PLANT DEFENSE – GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT - PHYTOCHROME AND LIGHT CONTROL OF PLANT DEVELOPMENT - BLUE LIGHT RESPONSES AND PHOTORECEPTORS – AUXIN – GIBBERELLINS – CYTOKININS – ETHYLENE – ABSCISIC ACID - BRASSINOSTEROIDS – THE CONTROL OF FLOWERING - STRESS PHYSIOLOGY.
