NATURE WRITING IN NINETEENTH-CENTURY AMERICAN LITERATURE. THE COURSE EXPLORES NINETEENTH-CENTURY CANONICAL WORKS FROM AN ECOCRITICAL PERSPECTIVE. THE CONCEPT OF ‘NATURE’ AND LITERARY REPRESENTATIONS OF THE ENVIRONMENT ARE STUDIED WITH A VIEW TO COMPREHENDING LINGUISTIC AND FORMAL MATTERS AS WELL AS QUESTIONS RELATED TO THE NATION’S CULTURAL AND POLITICAL IDENTITY.
