THE COURSE IS DIVIDED IN: GROUP EXPERIENCES IN THE LABORATORY WITH REPORT; LECTURES AND CALCULATING EXERCISES WITH REGARD TO PHYSICAL OPTICS. THERE WILL BE AN ORAL EXAM AND FOR GRADING THE LABORATORY RESULTS WILL BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION AS WELL. REFERENCES TO GEOMETRICAL OPTICS: LAWS OF LIGHT REFLECTION AND REFRACTION; REFRACTIVE INDEX; CHROMATIC DISPERSION; OPTICAL PRISM AND MINIMUM DEVIATION. REFERENCES TO PHYSICAL OPTICS: LIGHT WAVES; WAVE MOTION; VELOCITY, AMPLITUDE AND INTENSITY OF THE WAVE; WAVEFRONTS, SUPERPOSITION OF WAVES, VECTOR REPRESENTATION, HUYGENS-FRESNEL PRINCIPLE; INTERFERENCE OF LIGHT; COHERENT LIGHT SOURCES; FRAUNHOFER AND FRESNEL DIFFRACTION; SINGLE-SLIT DIFFRACTION; RESOLUTION WITH RECTANGULAR APERTURE, CIRCULAR APERTURE; SYSTEM MULTI-APERTURES, DIFFRACTION GRATING, ANGULAR DISPERSION AND RESOLUTION OF A GRATING; POLARIZATION OF LIGHT, BREWSTER LAW, POLARIZATION FILTERS, MALUS LAW, BIOT-SAVART LAW AND OPTICAL ACTIVITY OF CRYSTALS AND SOLUTIONS, ROTATING POWER OF OPTICALLY ACTIVE SUBSTANCES.
