THE PROGRAM INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: 1) ELEMENTS OF STRUCTURAL CRYSTALLOGRAPHY 2) THE ELECTROMAGNETIC SPECTRUM 3) X-RAYS: EMISSION AND ABSORPTION SPECTRUM, DIFFRACTION; USE OF X-RAYS IN MINERALOGY: IDENTIFICATION, REFINEMENT OF CELL PARAMETERS, AND CRYSTAL-CHEMICAL INTERPRETATION OF THE DATA. 4) ELECTRON MICROSCOPY AND THE USE OF X-RAYS IN MICROCHEMISTRY: X-RAY FLUORESCENCE, WDS AND EDS SYSTEMS, THE ELECTRON MICROPROBE. 5) FTIR AND RAMAN SPECTROSCOPY: PRINCIPLES AND APPLICATIONS IN MINERALOGY 6) METHODS FOR MINERAL SEPARATION. THE COURSE WILL INCLUDE PRACTICAL LESSONS AND VISITS TO SCIENTIFIC LABORATORIES
