(syllabus)
The course will deal with the prejudices and myths regarding language and languages.
"Language in myth and reality. A survival course against myths and prejudices"
1st part – LANGUAGES 1. Is there such a thing as a superior/inferior language? 2. Are dialects poor imitations of languages? 3. Are languages improving or worsening? 4. How many languages in the world? 5. Is there such a thing as an unpronounceable sound (if you’re not a native speaker)?
2nd part – LANGUAGE 1. Are languages taught to children by mothers? 2. Do animals speak/learn a human language? 3. Why do other people speak weird (and pretend they do not understand me)? 4. Where do new words come from? 5. Is spoken language a poor replica of written language?
