THE COURSE WILL BE DEDICATED TO THE EVOLUTION OF THE CITIES IN EUROPE FROM THE 18TH TO THE 20TH CENTURY. THE ANALYSIS WILL MAINLY DEAL WITH ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL ASPECTS, AND WILL BE CENTERED IN PARTICULAR ON THE CAPITAL CITIES AND THEIR RELATION WITH THE METROPOLITAN AREAS. THE MONOGRAPHIC SECTION FOCUSES ON LONG-TERM TRANSFORMATIONS OF ROME AS A CAPITAL CITY AND ON THE STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS WHICH HAVE INFLUENCED ITS DEVELOPMENT. STUDENTS ATTENDING THE COURSE WILL BE INVITED TO DO EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH, INDIVIDUALLY OR IN GROUP. THIS ACTIVITY WILL BE PART OF THE FINAL ASSESSMENT. STUDENTS WRITING THEIR DISSERTATION IN THE FIELD OF ECONOMIC HISTORY CAN AGREE AN INDIVIDUAL PROGRAM WITH THE PROFESSOR.
