VACIAGO PAOLO
(syllabus)
The course is divided into (a) preparatory exercises (1 cfu, equivalent to 12 hours); (b) a course of lessons (5 cfu, equivalent to 30 hours). *** (a) The exercises will be devoted to the acquisition of a basic knowledge of the Anglo-Saxon language, instrumental in reading the texts in the original language. b) during the lessons some of the main prose documents of the Anglo-Saxon period will be considered, with reading and linguistic and philological analysis of selected passages. The reading of the texts will provide an opportunity to consider the ways, forms and conventions of written communication in the Germanic world, with particular reference to the Anglo-Saxon area. It will also provide the cue to approach the correct methodological norms in order to recover or reconstruct the genuine form of the texts, bringing them back to their presumed original integrity and their original function.
