The aim is to present to the students an integrated approach to the study of sedimentary basins through studies of some aspects pertaining to hydrocarbon exploration. Particular attention is provided to the acquisition of quantitative methodologies in order to study both the dynamics of sedimentary basins (burial, subsidence and thermal history) and the definition of petroleum charge within the petroleum play by means of the study of dispersed matter in sediments and other paleotemperature indicators in diagenesis (fission tracks, clay mineralogy indicators, fluid inclusions).
