(objectives)
COURSE AIMS: THIS MODULE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH A BROAD KNOWLEDGE OF THE HISTORY OF ENGLISH LITERATURE AND CULTURE IN THE PERIOD FROM ITS ORIGINS TO THE END OF THE RENAISSANCE (1660). IT WILL PROVIDE THEM WITH A GOOD COMPETENCE IN CLOSE-READING METHODOLOGY AND LITERARY/ PHILOLOGICAL RESEARCH, THROUGH THE STUDY OF PRIMARY TEXTS (IN THEIR THEMATIC, FORMAL, INTERTEXTUAL AND INTERMEDIAL ASPECTS) AND OF SECONDARY TEXTS (IN ORDER TO STIMULATE STUDENTS’ UNDERSTANDING OF THE MOST RECENT THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL DEBATES). THE MODULE ALSO AIMS TO IMPROVE THE STUDENTS’ RHETORICAL SKILLS (WRITTEN AND ORAL) ON THEMES AND ISSUES DEALT WITH IN THE CLASSROOM.
