The main objective is to address the student to the study of the physical system constituted by the Planet and the near-Earth space, i.e., a study seen within the solar-terrestrial interactions .

Specific objectives of the course are to give the student:

1. an in-deep knowledge on the formation, structure and dynamics of the Ionosphere and Magnetosphere, in steady-state and perturbed-state conditions
2. an investigation of the main ionospheric and magnetospheric instabilities and perturbations produced by solar radiation and natural and anthropogenic emissions from the Earth’s surface.
3. a specific knowledge of the main coupling mechanisms Litosphere-Atmosphere-Ionosphere-Magnetosphere and, more generally, of the Earth-Sun interactions.
