PHYSICS OF THE IONOSPHERE AND PHYSICS OF THE MAGNETOSPHERE
(objectives)
The main objective is to address the student to the study of the physical system constituted by the Planet and the near-Earth space, i.e., a study seen within the solar-terrestrial interactions .
Specific objectives of the course are to give the student:
1. an in-deep knowledge on the formation, structure and dynamics of the Ionosphere and Magnetosphere, in steady-state and perturbed-state conditions 2. an investigation of the main ionospheric and magnetospheric instabilities and perturbations produced by solar radiation and natural and anthropogenic emissions from the Earth’s surface. 3. a specific knowledge of the main coupling mechanisms Litosphere-Atmosphere-Ionosphere-Magnetosphere and, more generally, of the Earth-Sun interactions.
